How do I declare Political Science
as my major?
Students
considering majoring in Political Science must attend a mandatory Change
of Major Workshop. These are scheduled numerous times
throughout the semester.
How do I find out what courses are
being offered for the semester?
Take a look at the department's
Handbook of Undergraduate Studies or the University's

Catalog.
How do I find out who is teaching a
particular course?
This information is available in the department's

Where can I check to see if classes
are open or full?
The best way to get this information is to view the
University's
Schedule of Classes.
How can I speak to a Political Science
professor outside of class time?
All of our professors and instructors hold office
hours for students. You can find out what times office hours are
and get email addresses from our
faculty web page. Also, all faculty office hours are
posted directly outside the Political Science department office
at the Social Sciences building, room 315.
What are the General Education requirements
for Political Science majors?
The General Education requirements for the major
will be explained to you at your University Orientation. You can
visit the University-wide
General Education Curriculum homepage to view all the
course listings. For academic advising on General Education courses
please contact the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Advising

Are internships available through the
Political Science department?
Yes. Internships are strongly encouraged. Normally,
a good time to sign up for an internship is during your junior
or senior year. Internships are available in Tucson, Sierra Vista,
Phoenix and Washington D.C. You can pick-up our internship manual
at Social Sciences 315 or call 621-7600 for more information.

Can I take courses at a community college
and then transfer to the University?
Yes. You can transfer over a maximum of 64 units
from a community college. If you plan to attend Pima Community College,
please check out the Political Science transfer guide and be sure
to consult with an academic advisor for proper course selection.
Do I need to take a second language
for a Political Science degree?
Yes. You will need to demonstrate fourth semester
proficiency in a second language. There are a variety of second
languages that you can choose from. Visit the
Second Language Requirements homepage for policies and specific
information.
Do I have to complete a minor in addition
to my Political Science major?
Yes. A minor is required for the degree. Most minors
require that you complete a total of 18 units and 9 of the 18 needs
to be upper division units (300-499 level courses). Visit the University's
General Catalog homepage for a complete listing of minors.
